Getting the car fixed takes up time and money, and if you drive it's probable that you're not a fan of visiting the mechanic for these reasons. However, there are a few ways to make sure that you aren't spending more than you need to on repairs throughout the life of your car. There are a lot of money drains when it comes to fixing your automobile, use the tips below to make sure that you don't succumb to them:

1. Stick with a shop you trust
This may be the most obvious of the tips, but when you find a shop and mechanic that you trust, don't go anywhere else, Lifehacker explained. When searching for someone to fix your car, find someone who values you as a customer and provides you with solid service. It's not always the local shops that will treat you best either. Make sure to do your research before settling on a shop. 

2. Make small scratches DIY projects
If you're just dealing with a few tiny scratches, you won't need a professional in order to take care of your car issue, Bankrate noted. It isn't very difficult for anyone to fix a small, cosmetic chip or scratch on his or her vehicle. All you will need is some ultra-fine 2000 grit sandpaper and some water mixed with soap in order to take care of a scratch. Then cover the area with touch-up paint and, when it is dry, a rubbing compound.

3. Do a bit of research on the repair 
If you don't want to get cheated by a shop, make sure you take the time to look of the repair that your car needs, Lifehacker recommended If a mechanic is demanding what seems to be too much, according to your research, don't be scared to dispute the bill. Just know when to do it. Look over the bill before paying in order to make sure that everything is as needed, and no extra charges were added.

4. Find your own replacement parts
Some car parts are easy to replace, and you can save money by taking care of the job yourself, according to Bankrate. It shouldn't be all that difficult for you to find a replacement if something like your bumper or fender got damaged. Simple how-to guides can be found online for repairs.
